General Psychotherapy offers more flexibility than the other treatments provided by Dr. Harari. It is intended for individuals who are looking to gain a better understanding of themselves and / or their relationships. This track is typically not time limited, though it is individually tailored to meet your goals. General Psychotherapy is best suited for individuals who would not be better served by one of the other forms of treatment and who are seeking to better understand their patterns and improve the quality of their relationships with themselves and those around them.
Dr. Harari has many years of experience working with gay men and understands their unique challenges. He can help you work through issues commonly faced by gay men including coming out to friends and family, obtaining and maintaining romantic relationships, substance use and abuse, unsafe sexual behaviors, problems with intimacy, issues related to religious beliefs, and internalized homophobia. Dr. Harari also offers skills groups specifically for gay men.
Dr. Harari’s research has focused on the Orthodox Jewish community. He has many years of experience working with Orthodox Jews on a number of issues including anxiety related to dating and relationships, problems with intimacy, balancing personal and communal / familial needs, halachik struggles, perfectionism, and sexual identity. Dr. Harari understands that it can be difficult for an Orthodox person to find a balance between their religious identity / beliefs and the standards and norms of the outside world. His understanding of the Orthodox community allows him to work with Orthodox clients in a sensitive and empathetic way. Dr. Harari will work with you to explore the areas that you are struggling with and develop strategies to balance your multiple demands in a personally satisfying way.
During your initial session, Dr. Harari will conduct a thorough assessment of your needs to determine if your goals in these areas would be better served by incorporating elements of the other treatments offered.
