Motivational Interviewing recognizes that individuals are often ambivalent about changing their behaviors. It is a goal directed technique for helping individuals explore and resolve their ambivalence so that they can change their behaviors. Dr. Harari uses Motivational Interviewing in conjunction with Relapse Prevention to help individuals who struggle with drug / alcohol abuse or other addictive behaviors.
Relapse Prevention is a cognitive behavioral treatment for individuals who struggle with problematic alcohol and drug use. Motivational Interviewing / Relapse Prevention may be right for you if you experience any of the following related to your alcohol / drug use or other addictive behaviors:
Relapse Prevention understands that recovering from drug / alcohol problems or other addictive behaviors is not a linear process and that lapses (one-time use after a period of abstinence) and relapses are a natural part of recovery. This form of treatment aims to decrease substance use and other addictive behaviors by monitoring cravings, developing strategies for managing people, places, and things associated with addictive behaviors, preventing lapses from becoming full-blown relapses, and building sober support networks.
During your initial session, Dr. Harari will assess whether your goals are likely to be attained through Relapse Prevention or one of the other treatments offered.
