Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a highly structured, evidence-based treatment developed for individuals who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, and patterns that feel difficult to control. DBT can be particularly helpful if you experience any of the following:

  • Fear of abandonment

  • Difficulties in relationships

  • Uncertainty about your identity

  • Impulsive or risky behaviors (e.g., substance use, unsafe sex, binge eating, compulsive spending)

  • Intense emotional responses or mood swings

  • Chronic feelings of emptiness

  • Difficulty managing anger

  • Self-harming behaviors

  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors

Dr. Harari offers comprehensive DBT, which includes individual therapy, a weekly skills training group, and phone coaching support as needed. He is also an active member of a DBT consultation team to ensure the highest quality of care. The typical course of DBT treatment ranges from 8 to 16 months.

In individual sessions, DBT balances acceptance (recognizing that your current coping strategies once served a purpose) with change (building new, more effective ways of thinking and responding). Skills training groups cover the four core modules of DBT:

  • Mindfulness

  • Emotion Regulation

  • Distress Tolerance

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

During your initial session, Dr. Harari will work collaboratively with you to determine whether DBT is the right fit for your needs and goals.
