Therapy for Gay Men and the LGBTQIA+ Community
Navigating mental health concerns can feel especially complex when layered with the experiences of being gay, queer, trans, or otherwise part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether or not your concerns are directly related to identity, it can make a powerful difference to work with a therapist who offers not only clinical expertise, but also a deeply affirming, nonjudgmental space—and who understands from lived experience what it means to exist in a world that has not always embraced you fully.
Therapy for Gay Men
Dr. Harari has extensive experience working with gay men across a wide range of concerns. Therapy provides a space to address not only the specific challenges tied to identity, but also the broader struggles that many people face—such as anxiety, depression, relationship stress, emotional dysregulation, and addictive patterns.
In sessions, clients may choose to explore issues such as:
Coming out to family, friends, or religious communities
Navigating romantic and sexual relationships
Patterns of avoidance, impulsivity, or unsafe behavior
Difficulties with vulnerability, intimacy, or trust
Reconciling religious or cultural values with one’s identity
Internalized shame, self-criticism, or perfectionism
Loneliness, grief, or trauma related to marginalization or rejection
While therapy may include work around sexual orientation, gender identity, or societal pressures, it doesn’t have to. The space is yours to use in whatever way feels most meaningful. What matters is having a therapist who meets you with respect, insight, and a commitment to helping you create a more authentic, intentional life.
Dr. Harari also offers DBT Skills Groups specifically for gay men, designed for individuals who struggle with intense emotions, interpersonal difficulties, or impulsive behavior. These groups combine the structure of Dialectical Behavior Therapy with a supportive, identity-affirming environment—where participants can learn practical skills while feeling safe to show up fully as themselves.
Affirming Therapy for the LGBTQIA+ Community
In addition to his work with gay men, Dr. Harari is committed to providing inclusive, evidence-based therapy for individuals across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, including trans, nonbinary, gender expansive, queer, bisexual, and asexual clients.
You deserve a space where you don't have to educate or explain who you are in order to receive adequate care. Therapy here centers on what you need, whether that’s emotional support, skills to manage distress, help improving relationships, or space to grow into the person you want to become.
Dr. Harari offers both in-person sessions in New York City and virtual sessions across New York State. During your consultation, you’ll discuss your goals and determine whether individual therapy or a structured group format might be the right fit.
