Relapse Prevention / Motivational Interviewing

Change is rarely a straight line—especially when it comes to drug or alcohol use or other addictive behaviors. People often feel conflicted: part of them wants to change, and part of them holds back. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a respectful, collaborative approach that helps individuals explore this ambivalence, clarify their values, and move toward change on their own terms.

Dr. Harari integrates MI with Relapse Prevention, a structured, cognitive-behavioral approach that helps clients build awareness of their triggers, strengthen coping strategies, and reduce the risk of relapse over time. This treatment may be a good fit if you’ve experienced:

  • Neglected responsibilities at work, school, or home

  • Risky behaviors or unsafe situations while using

  • Legal or financial consequences

  • Struggles in relationships due to your use

  • Difficulty controlling how much or how often you use

  • A life increasingly centered around the behavior

  • Repeated attempts to stop without lasting change

Relapse Prevention recognizes that recovery is not all-or-nothing. Lapses and relapses can happen—and rather than being viewed as failure, they’re treated as opportunities for learning and re-engagement. Together, we’ll work to reduce harmful behaviors, monitor cravings, build sustainable support systems, and strengthen your ability to respond to high-risk situations with intention and self-awareness.

During your initial session, Dr. Harari will help assess whether Motivational Interviewing and Relapse Prevention are the most appropriate fit for your goals, or if another evidence-based approach may better support your needs.
